Greenspace has acquired a number of properties within Cambria. These serve as wild areas, pocket parks, and cultural resources. The largest of these is Strawberry Canyon, a 16-acre wooded area with a walking trail.
Land trusts provide a means for communities to save and protect their important environmental assets. By acquiring and retiring development rights or easements or by outright land purchases or gifts, land trusts (also known as land conservancies) obtain the rights to parcels that they then protect in perpetuity and work to restore to healthy ecosystems.
Greenspace primarily buys properties or receives gifts of land, which then become pocket parks and reserves. We maintain our properties and, as funding becomes available, restore them with the hand removal of non-native plant species and a percentage of dead and dying trees, leaving snags for wildlife habitat, and planting of healthy seedlings and native plants. Our most recent acquisitions include a 4-acre addition to the Strawberry Canyon Reserve and Fitzwater Canyon. If you are interested in donating or selling land to Greenspace, please contact us .
